Gender equality for sustainability in ports: Developing a framework

Ports have increasingly been addressing sustainability issues; however, gender equality has a low priority in such efforts. This paper is aimed at providing insights into how ports to contribute sustainability. Twelve semi-structured interviews were conducted with top-level port managers from six European countries. The responses the interviewees analysed using Grounded Theory’s constant comparative analysis. findings show that engaged measures contributing through five stages: (1) Gender segregation, which needs be overcome, and is, many cases, starting point; (2) Compliance national laws regulation; (3) equity; (4) equality; (5) More sustainable ports.
